	Courses: • Chinese as a Home Language (CHL) for students who have a Chinese-speaking environment at home. There will be 9 levels of classes for CHL by using Ma's textbooks.. • Chinese as a Second Language (CSL) for student who do not speak Chinese at home. The Chinese courses will be offered with a special course material. The candidate could be both adults and children. • Art and Cultural Courses: (Please reference our web site at www.hxch.org  ) See application for the specific courses offered this semester. The kindergarten students are limited to the classes set for the ages. • Adult recreational classes will be offered pending on the availability of the teacher and number of applicants.
	Level Evaluation: Self-evaluate your child’s Mandarin Level as follows: (0—10). The purpose of this rating is to help the school determines the student’s level. 10 – Can speak and understand 100%; 7 – Can speak some (70%) but can understand 70%, (70-70, or 50-90, etc); 3 – Can’t speak at all and can understand some (0-60, etc); 0 – Can’t speak and can’t understand at all.
	Class Switch: • The students or parents can request switching classes after the school starts. The switch will be approved if the position in the targeted class is available and a valid registration receipt should be presented to registration officers. • The switch can be made in the first two weeks of the fall semester; there will be no additional fee for the first switch, and $10 charge for each subsequent switch. The switch is not allowed after two weeks of school. • The text book shall be returned only in good condition before getting another new one when you need it. $20 will be charged for damaged textbooks that being returned.

	Go (围棋) Class 执教：刘坚。  Teacher Jian Wu， Education for a strategic Board Game, Go (围棋) is a fascinating board game for 2 players that originated in China more than 4,000 years ago. It provides an opportunity to develop critical thinking skills because of its complexity. It’s also practice in problem solving and it helps develop a flexible and open-minded attitude. Players are motivated to combine attack and defense for maximum efficiency, thus developing appreciation for the interconnected consequences of various possibilities. In addition, Go is a natural addition to the math curriculum. The fifth grade curriculum requires understanding pattern recognition and geometric shapes. Learning shape sequences and solving game problems are ideal in achieving this objective. It’s also fun! Children will learn the foundations of the game based on English Go terms. A new concept will be introduced each week. Kids will be able to play the game, work on strategies, and have a fun activity together. This course is for child ages 8-up. Late homework will NOT be accepted unless it is due to excused absence. 2) Late homework in the case of an excused absence is due the day after returning to class.   成人舞蹈班  执教：纪兰慰 1、成人舞蹈班招收成人； 2、招生条件：爱好舞蹈，并需有一定舞蹈基础，或已在本成人舞班学过一年以上者； 3、  根据演出需要，统一定作演出服，自付费用。 4、本学期成人舞蹈班授课内容：维族民间舞蹈组合和维族舞蹈作品。    少年舞蹈大班  执教：纪兰慰 1、儿童舞蹈大班招生人数12人； 2、招生条件：年龄满10岁以上；爱好舞蹈，已在本舞蹈班学过一年以上者，    或仍然在学习芭蕾舞课者。 3、根据演出需要，统一定作演出服，自付费用。上课时自备舞蹈鞋和练功服。 4、本学期儿童舞蹈大班授课内容：藏族舞蹈作品。   少儿舞蹈中班 执教：蒋衡； 王小钰 1，少儿舞蹈中班人数不超过１５人。年龄在七岁到九岁。 2，招生以原来就在此班的老生为优先入取，报名日期在前的为优先。 3, 演出用服饰由老师统一办理，费用由家长自负。对不购买演出服装的学生，将不安排上台演出。 4，为保证演出顺利，老师有权对缺课1/3以上的学生做出演出的重新安排。    少儿舞蹈小班 执教：季梅青 1，少儿舞蹈小班人数不超过１５人。年龄必须在五周岁以上。 2，招生以原来就在此班的老生为优先入取，多余名额以满五周岁的，报名日期在前的为优先。 3, 演出用服饰由老师统一办理，费用由家长自负。对不购买演出服装的学生，将不安排上台演出。 4，为保证演出顺利，老师有权对缺课1/3以上的学生做出演出的重新安排。  少儿绘画班(Art) 执教：余琳 学生程度：具有二至四年以上学习经验 教学措施：通过临模写生练习提高模仿观察能力，训练线描和素描造型表现能力。具体教程中包含简单透视，人物动态的表现训练。让学生接触多 种绘画色材，提高他们对色彩的感受理解与正确运用，以色彩充分表现造型的空间感。 教学目的：以循序渐进的训练方法提高学生绘画水平，引导学生发挥形象思维能力，扩展少儿的智能发展和审美情趣。 课堂绘画材料：铅笔(Drawing Pencils, HB, B, 2B, 3B)，腊笔(Brand Name: Crayola)，油质色粉笔(Box of Oil Pastel)，颜色铅笔(Box of Color Pencils),写生本(Sketch Pad，Strathmore , 11x14", 20 sheets, 70-100 lb)。   少儿绘画班(Art) 执教：李烨( H.S.)   学生程度：具有0至二年以上学习经验 教授课程包括素描，色彩，美术史，儿童画等。学生年龄从5岁至40岁不等。 教学指导原则：在教授绘画基本技巧的同时，注重培养学生观察力，想象力和创造力。 教学目标：学生具备基本造型、色彩及审美能力。   少儿绘画手工班(Art & craft) 执教：陈学军 绘画美工 是将绘画与剪纸、绘画与折纸巧妙地结合在一起。它可以启发孩子的创作思维及智力，培养孩子的观察力和想象力；通过课程使孩子动手、动脑的能力得以提高，还可以训练手指的灵活运用和培养孩子集中精神。 绘画美工课 通过绘画以及剪纸、折纸、和拼画，结合成新颖的图画，给人以新的视觉效果。 从事少儿教育多年、毕业于师范学院的陈学军老师任教。来美前，陈老师从事少儿教育23年，擅长于少儿美术教学，在中国广州市教育局直属小学及幼儿园和香港教授美术课，积累了丰富的教学经验。陈老师现已获高级小学与幼儿园教师资格证书，并第一批获中国授予小学与幼儿园高级教师资格；陈老师已在华夏中文学校任教四年。  国际象棋班(Chess) 执教：项植权( 资深老师 USCF rating 1663)      檀星驰 chess expert, USCF rating 2055 /陈熙捷      小老师 teacher assistant: 张睿 USCF rating 1491/ 舒东浩 USCF rating 1312 年龄9-14周岁，30名, 入学后分班。小班教学。 传统挂盘教学，组织各类比赛，培养体育精神。欢迎爱动脑筋的小朋友报名！   太極拳/木兰拳 执教：Hong Kruckner洪荣 . 太極拳是一種古老的健身與技擊並重的拳術。學員從短套路8式、16式、24式、32式、42式、48式逐步升級學習太極拳、太極劍。Tai Chi is a traditional Chinese form of martial arts many centuries old. The students will learn short form (8, 16, 24, 32, 42, 48 forms), and boxing and sword.   木兰拳是将太极拳基本功、气功要领、武术技击基本功、体操基本功及舞台艺术造型有机地结合在一起，创编规范出的一套女姓的武术拳种。木兰拳全套分为：木兰双环体操、木兰徒手、单扇和双扇、单剑和双剑。 Mulan Boxing is a combination of Tai Chi, Qi Gong, and gymnastics. Mulan Boxing uses Quan, Double ring, the fan, and the sword in developing these exercises. In addition to helping women become more trim, a number of women have recovered from serious illnesses.   木兰拳是将太极拳基本功、气功要领、武术技击基本功、体操基本功及舞台艺术造型有机地结合在一起，创编规范出的一套女姓的武术拳种。她是以气功锻炼的吐纳之道和阴阳二气合理运动为理论依据，动静结合，达到防病、治病、延年益寿的目 的，它尤其对腰腿、关节、心脏、肥胖及失眠等疾病有积极的疗效和预防作用，改善女姓的形体。 木兰拳全套分为：木兰双环体操、木兰徒手、单扇和双扇、单剑和双剑。 Mulan Boxing is a combination of Tai Chi, Qi Gong, and gymnastics. It is a slow motion exercise developed for women to improve muscle tone, strength, coordination, and poise resulting in better health and long life. It’s 922 pages with an additional section of yellow flash cards at the back of the book.  The book is on sale at Barnes and Noble for $18.99. 速算班 （Mental Math） 执教：张思敏 Class time: 4:00pm – 4:50pm 学生年龄：6岁 – 8岁 教学指导：教授多退少补，分配率等速算法。 教学目的：本教学将教授孩子们如何进行快速心算，通过简单又非同寻常的速算诀窍进一步理解算术这门科学又可获得生活中实际应用的语言。除此之外，培养学生对于记忆数字的能力和对数学的兴趣。心算课还可以帮助学生训练注意力集中。 毕业于上海财经大学市场营销系, Saint Joseph’s University国际营销学硕士学位Master of Science in International Marketing, Special concentration in market analyst, product promotion/launches and budget control 。多年将数学运用于金融和市场分析，在计算方面积累了深厚的经验，尤其对于数字应用有着深刻的理解。 SAT II Chinese 执教：赵婧钰 Class time: 4:00pm – 4:50pm; 8 sessions; Saturdays, Sept. 11 - Oct. 30 Student level : 9 – 12 Grade Course Description: This course is an advanced level course. High School Students are trained to improve their Mandarin Chinese skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing. Based on the requirements of the SAT Chinese Subject Test (SAT II), special emphasis will be placed on listening comprehension and the grammatical structures. Class Topics Brief: Students will learn general test strategies, concepts and skills essential to the tests. This is to help students to build consistency and confidence, and the ability to quickly solve easy and hard problems. They will focus on concepts and skills required by the College Board. Students will learn how to approach challenging problems in the future exam. Class Instructor: The class instructor will be Ms. Jingyu Zhao赵婧钰, M.A. in Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language, with several years of College level Chinese teaching experience overall, and over two years of Huaxia Chinese School class instruction and individual/group tutoring.
